Hello Verner, This sounds to me like a hairline problem. The vector graphics probably contain lines with no width specified (hairlines). On a laser printer those lines appear with the printer's minimum resolution of one (rather large) pixel and are well visible. The drafts person checked the laser print and found the graphics to look fine. When exposing the same graphics to a film or plate recorder or to another device which has a much higher resolution than a standard laser printer those lines will again appear as one pixel wide lines. This time, however, the pixel size is much smaller and the lines become nearly invisible. One solution would be to adjust the original graphics and always assign a certain line width, e.g. 0.3 pt. A preflight tools could check for hairlines in pdf files and warn you or even automatically adjust the width but your printshop should be able to tell you more about this. Without knowing the system I'd though assume that one could set it up to automatically adjust hairlines to a more reasonable width. They might check with their machine drivers. We use postscript printer driver 5.1 and adist4ppd v1.0. We use Windows 2000. The printshop says that they havn't changed anything in their docutech setup. We changed to Windows 2000 and updated printer drivers some months ago, but don't remember any drawings with missing lines then. When we print on our Laserjet 8000 DN there is no problem. When we print on our XeroxC1 printer and copier we can see that the lines are thin but not missing. It seems that hundreds of drawings have thin or missing lines. Do you have any suggestions on what to do? [...] ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
