Shaded text within a paragraph (not in a table cell)

Word has the capability of allowing text to be shaded (Format>Borders and
Shading>Shading> Apply to Text) within a paragraph. I need to do the same
thing in FrameMaker. The text does not appear in a table, which would allow
me to apply shading. Is there a way to apply shading to text in FrameMaker
without placing the text in a table??
