Assuming that this doesn't happen all the time for all files, and that
it's not a new bug in FM 6, check the following:

When the file is opened and before it's edited and saved, do you get a
proper .lck file in your file system, i.e. containing a user name, etc.?
Does the .lck file turn empty as you try to save, or sometime before that?

This does sound like a network file problem. Are the FM files stored on
UNIX, or on another file system? Can other FM installations, perhaps on
other platforms, access and edit the files? If you have a mixed UNIX/
Windows environment or file system, strange problems sometimes occur.
