Saving FM 6 Files "Down"

Is there a way to save FM 6 files "down" so they can be opened by FM 5.5.6?
We have inherited some files that FM acknowledges are (or at least appear to
be) FM files, but insists that they cannot be opened by "this release" of
FM.
