Subject: Variables as hyperlinks--impossible?

Hi; A couple of us here have tried to find tricks to make a "Running H/F x" variable into a hyperlink. The idea is that, in PDF, you can navigate to the beginning of the chapter/section by clicking on the header. (We use a two-level heading, chapter and section.) The system variable only allows character formats; hypertext markers need to jump to a named destination. There seems no way to make the named destination generic ("go to the named destination that is contained by this variable on this page"). If it's possible to do so, it has to be some tricky trick.
