The issue about Save as PDF that hasn't been addressed is that Adobe has been fully aware of its severe limitations for several years. Yet: 1. The FrameMaker 5.5 brochure (PDF) on Adobe's website still states, on the very first page: "You can also automatically generate Portable Document Format (PDF) files from within FrameMaker--complete with hypertext links--without first printing to an Adobe PostScript device." 2. Adobe's salespeople and VARs continue to hype this capability as a major feature of version 5.5. 3. Nothing in the on-line help or the V5.5 user's manual describes the severe limitations on the Save As PDF "feature". 4. Adobe has made no attempt to officially notify all registered license holders about the Save As PDF problem, as well as many other issues, such as: a. The fact that the product comes with outdated versions of Distiller, Exchange, and Postscript Driver b. Many license holders did not receive the Type on Call CD, and the free fonts that can be obtained therefrom. ==================== | Nullius in Verba | ==================== Dan Emory, Dan Emory & Associates FrameMaker/FrameMaker+SGML Document Design & Database Publishing Voice/Fax: 949-722-8971 E-Mail: danemory@primenet.com 10044 Adams Ave. #208, Huntington Beach, CA 92646 ---Subscribe to the "Free Framers" list by sending a message to majordomo@omsys.com with "subscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
