2-day Framemaker-to-PDF Seminar, Boston, March 29-30

I am happy to announce that I will be holding a 2-day
FrameMaker-to-Acrobat Advanced Techniques seminar in Boston,
on March 29-30, 1999.

Following is a short description of the seminar. A detailed
syllabus of the course is available at http://www.MicroType.com.

About the course
----------------

The FrameMaker-to-Acrobat course is designed for experienced
users of FrameMaker who create and maintain high-quality,
interactive Acrobat PDF files.

The standard procedure for creating such files and the only
one referred to in the FrameMaker and Acrobat manuals is to
use Acrobat Exchange to add all interactivity/settings over and
above the simple links created automatically by FrameMaker.
This is a repetitive and time-consuming process which is limited
to the current PDF: as soon as you update the source file and
redistill, you lose all features previously added in Exchange.

The FrameMaker-to-Acrobat Advanced Techniques seminar teaches a
multitude of undocumented techniques, creative solutions and
tips and tricks which eliminate intervention in Acrobat Exchange.
All Acrobat features are defined in the FrameMaker source file
so that they are automatically and consistently reproduced in
the PDF file when the source is updated.

Participants receive the full course book (400 pages), a full
version of MicroType's TimeSavers (single license), and all
exercise and sample files. In addition, each participant receives
a single license of Ari's Power Bundle from Dionis
(http://www.dionis.com), which includes some very useful PDF
testing and automation tools.

What is the difference between the regular 4-day
courses and this 2-day seminar?
-------------------------------------------------

The full 4-day course includes a great deal of hands-on experience
and covers (almost) all of the material presented in the 400-page
course workbook. (Based on feedback from past participants, future
courses will be 5-day courses, to accommodate additional time for
hands-on work with the techniques shown).

The 2-day seminar includes lectures and demonstrations of the
techniques which I teach in the full course, in a more concise format.
The course goes into more detail with the most frequently used
techniques and applications (such as automation, pop-ups, pdfmarks,
custom bookmarks, etc.), while only touching lightly on techniques
used only in special cases (such as setdistillerparams).

Participants in the 2-day seminar have the benefit of free e-mail
support/guidance for completion of course exercises and assignments
for 2 months after the course, during which time they can practice
the techniques learned using the course workbook and supplied files.
As the workbook is also designed as a self-paced "interspondence"
course, it is especially suited to facilitate such guided practice
of the techniques learned.

Note: All techniques and tools are equally applicable to Acrobat 3 and 4.
