conditional text question

Hey all:

I am adding some conditons to text in a doc I'm constructing.  So far, so
good.  Works like a charm in all my tests.
But it seems that I can't add a conditon to a specific *column* in a table -
only to a row.
Are they any workarounds for this, other than having a whole table with this
row excluded set as conditional?
