Yes, there are advantages and drawbacks of both methods, and there are situations in which embedding images is preferrable due to constraints. For instance, transferring files between computers or offices, when zipping the FM files and graphics is impractical, difficult or prone to human error. Or, using revision control systems that don't handle the checking in/out of related files gracefully. In general, though, if you have a choice and no forcing requirements, you should always link (import by reference) all graphics. The main arguments are: * You can easily update the graphics to a new version. * You can use the same graphic in several places without using copies. * You reduce the size and thereby the time to handle the FM files. * You don't risk losing all your graphics due to a FM bug. > In Frame, is there a way to convert all linked images to embedded (for > example, upon reaching a release milestone)? Not without using a plug-in, such as Systec Toolbox: http://www.systec-gmbh.com/tdsolution/en/loesung/index.html _____________________________________________ Thomas Michanek, FrameMaker/UNIX/MIF expert Technical Communicator, Uppsala, Sweden mailto:Thomas.Michanek@xxxxxxxxx http://go.to/framers/ _____________________________________________ ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@xxxxxxxxx ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
