Changing units of measure crashes Acrobat 4.05 on Windows

All:

Our manuals are exactly 193 x 250 mm. When we are checking PDFs in Acrobat
Reader, we want to see these measurements in the status bar, not 7.6 x 9.85
in.

However, for several of my colleagues, choosing Edit > Preferences in
Acrobat, capable of editing documents, crashes it. On my machine it does
not crash at all. My colleagues are running Windows XP, NT, and 2000.

Any idea what is happening?
