If you don't run 5.5.6, then upgrade. There's a bug with file permissions
in earlier 5.5 releases: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/c8a6.htm

One way to do it is to make a shell alias that starts FM with the
correct "umask" setting in a subshell, e.g. "(umask xxx; maker)",
where you have to select "xxx" according to your needs (man umask).
