FrameMaker - Easy to Learn

by Rita Muller

I'd like to vote in favor of dispelling the MYTH that FrameMaker is difficult to learn. Adobe Marketeers listen up. The new mantra:

FrameMaker is EASY to learn. ;-)

I, too, learned PageMaker about 5 years ago and we produced some very hefty user manuals with that product. It was a little annoying having to attend to each page individually, however, it was a huge step up from that 4 letter product.

This year I've had the opportunity to learn FrameMaker, alone, right here in my own cube. Armed with the FU list (and the great veteren FM users who've helped this newbie), Adobe's CIB, FMUG, online Help, Sarah O'Keefe's book, and David Knopf's excellent seminars at the WinWriters conference, I was up and running quickly. When I presented materials to my boss in just a few weeks he commented, "I thought FrameMaker was supposed to be hard to learn?"

I won't deny there were some challenges along the way, but nothing compared to the difficulties I encountered when forced to use an application NOT intended for book production.

Can I just say, I LOVE FrameMaker.

Thanks for the ear,

Rita
