FLAME: Just make the damn keynote available, please!

Open Flame to Brad:

I second Michael Richard's complaint as it is a non-trivial exercise to
configure Netscape Communicator 4.7 or Internet Explorer 4.5 to NOT use the
plug-in for just ONE document and then restore the original configuration,
tied as this is into the Windows file extension mappings and the MIME
mappings tables. This goes beyond merely specifying 'helpers'.

When I want to bypass the automatic display of PDF documents within the
browser, I right-click on the link and select Save Link As. But with your
dinky little registration dialogue with CGI script behind it, you've taken
away this option. I for one won't be avoidably upsetting the carefully
honed and finely balanced configuration of my delicate and temperamental
Windows environment, the world's first virus for which people actually pay
money, just to read one document. Instead, I'm just going to sit here in
the musty gloom of my closet, fantasizing the paranoid possibilities that
the keynote address is being suppressed in order to conceal the impending
Martian invasion, and the subsequent rape of our livestock, slaughtering of
our homes, and the rustling of our wives, husbands, and children.

So just abandon the uptightedness, remove the printing lock, and make the
damn thing AVAILABLE!! Since John Warnock made his speech in front of a
couple of hundred people in a public forum (no doubt with a couple of
planted Microsoft and Quark spies), it's hardly a secret, or subject to
commercial confidentiality. And as Warnock's intention was to reassure the
FrameMaker community of the continued life of our favourite product, one
imagines that he would want it disseminated as widely as possible within
that community.

As it is, this kind of behaviour is only fuelling the suspicion and distrust
it is meant to dispel. Over to you.
