I know this is off topic for this list (direprognostications@direprogs.com), but I just wanted to let everyone know that Bill Gates himself assured us at the recent Word Users Conference that any future version of Word will be file compatible with the current version. Many thanks to Bryce for his insights. I don't know about you guys, but I get worried when I'm told by a major Microsoft distributor in Helsinki that Word2000 is being replaced by Word2001 at a cost of 1600 Euros per unit. This happened when I was chasing the cost of HTML last week here in Finland. This shows, at the very least, that Microsoft is not too concerned about training their Finnish distributors to make them product literate. It also shows that Word is not high up their list of priorities. It also helps stir the pot about Microsoft's long-term commitment to Word. My 1600.00 Euros worth.
