WIN NT FM+SGML 5.5.6 Document Source: MS Word document containing Hindi translation. Target Print Engine: XyVision (accepts SGML input), running on a Unix platform. Procedure: 1. Imported the Word document into FM+SGML, and applied the same Hindi font (it's Chanakaya, or something like that) that was used in the Word document to the FM+SGML text. The resulting glyphs in the FM+SGML document matched perfectly with the glyphs in the original Word document. 2. Applied structure to the Hindi text in FM+SGML so it could be exported to SGML. 3. Exported the structured FM+SGML document to SGML. As expected, nearly all of the code points for the Hindi glyphs were in high ASCII, and were converted to ISO Latin1 entity references in the SGML document instance. 4. Imported the SGML document instance produced in step 3 into XyVision. 5. Printed the document from XyVision, utilizing the same Hindi font that was used in the FM+SGML document. Result: When the document was printed from XyVision, the resulting glyphs did not match up with those in the Word and FM+SGML documents. Even the glyphs in low ASCII didn't match up. Analysis: The idea in performing Steps 3 and 4 was to find out whether there was an easy way to get the document into XyVision. The result showed that the easy way won't work, because the code points for the glyphs in FM+SGML must not match the code points for the same glyphs in XyVision, even though the same font is being used. Question: Anyone know how to map the entity references (as well as the glyphs in low ASCII) to the correct code points in XyVision? This question pertains to all languages, not just Hindi. We don't want to re-invent the wheel if someone has already done the mapping from the FrameMaker code points to those in XyVision. ==================== | Nullius in Verba | ==================== Dan Emory, Dan Emory & Associates FrameMaker/FrameMaker+SGML Document Design & Database Publishing Voice/Fax: 949-722-8971 E-Mail: danemory@primenet.com 10044 Adams Ave. #208, Huntington Beach, CA 92646 ---Subscribe to the "Free Framers" list by sending a message to majordomo@omsys.com with "subscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
