Members of various Acrobat, FrameMaker, & Computer-to-Plate Pressroom lists: Thanks to all of you who have responded on-list and off with questions, problems, suggestions, etc. related to AdobePS 4.3. Based on your feedback, I would add the following caveat with regards to this driver: AdobePS 4.3 should NOT be used if your workflows include the production of PDF files via Acrobat Distiller 3.0x AND if you use any TrueType fonts. The "readme" for the driver states that TrueType fonts may be used if you have the driver set to "send as outlines" in lieu of "send as Type 42". This workaround significantly degrades text output at small point sizes. Furthermore, there appears to be a problem, possibly in Acrobat 3, in which such "send as outlines" TrueType fonts lose display on the screen. Thus, if you are continuing to use Acrobat 3.0x Distiller and any TrueType fonts, you should continue to use the AdobePS 4.2.x driver, where x >= 4. If and when you upgrade to Acrobat 4, AdobePS 4.3 will be "safe" to use and provide the TrueType text searchability features that have been AWOL so long. As a result of the feedback, I have posted five problem reports against the driver, primarily associated with the contents of the "readme" file, the fact that the "readme" file is only accessible after you've completed the installation, the missing glyph display problem, etc. On behalf Adobe, I apologize for any inconvenience these problems have caused. - Dov ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
