First: success! Thanks to the many people on the list who suggested that it is not impossible to do high-volume high-precision process imagesetting from Frame. I was able to rebut my printer's argument and get him to take the job seriously. Result? Six hours later we have a successful route from PostScript to in-RIP separated and imposed pages. Second: it's clear from my experience and several of the messages that a lot of users are having problems getting good colour results. Jason Aiken, for example, asks: "What about the PC users? Given the fact that Frame on Windows is a GDI (whatever that stands for) application which uses RGB Postscript, has anyone produced successful color documents using Frame PS and/or PDF and a high end RIP printer?" There's a technology issue here. Let's hope Adobe is busy stitching its lovely new imaging engine into Frame as we speak. There's also a people issue, about Frame's low profile and the resulting lack of confidence among prepress and print people. Quark and Aldus, I seem to remember, ran energetic campaigns to win the support of prepress professionals. They were mass-market applications, so it wouldn't be worth it for Frame. But maybe Adobe could fund a semi-glossy 'FAQ' aimed at prepress professionals? In fact, a few marketing support publications about Frame in general wouldn't go amiss... Again, thanks to the list. A great place. ____________ Mark Barratt Text Matters Information design: we help explain things using language, design, system and process improvement +44 (0)118 986 8313 http://www.textmatters.com markb@textmatters.com ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
