I noted in a message a week or so ago from Lee Richardson of Adobe a comment to the effect that the team of engineers working on FrameMaker envied Microsoft's ability to re-write large portions of code at each new release of MSWord and regretted that decisions about the design of FrameMaker made long ago prevented the correction of certain shortcomings. I wonder if the malfunctioning footnotes fall in this category. Practical question: are you using your method with balanced spreads?
