No, there is currently no workaround. I will try to find out if a driver update will solve this anytime in the not too distant future. But quite frankly, why are you worrying about it? The TrueType version of the font will render just as well as the Type 1 version on both screen and print. Bubbameisers and urban legend notwithstanding, there is nothing wrong with TrueType fonts in general or this TrueType Symbol font in particular.
