Now, for this book when I generate the TOC, the Chapter numbers > are followed by a soft return (shift-Enter). The chapter numbers do not > increment, all show as 0. The Reference page TOC paragraph formats are: > <$paratext> <$pagenum> > openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId> > <$paratext>................................... <$pagenum> > <$paratext> .................................. <$pagenum> > <$chapnum><$paratext> > <$paratext> .................. <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> > <$paratext> .................. <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> > <$paratext> .......................... <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> > <$paratext> .......................... <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> > <$paratext> .................................. <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> > <$paratext> .................................. <$chapnum>-<$pagenum> This might be a dumb question, but are you sure that the numbering in the individual chapters is set up using the $chapnum variable? What's the syntax for the autonumbering on those paragraph tags? You can make the numbering work the way you mentioned using other methods, which would explain why they don't work in the TOC.
