"... Contrary to what one might expect, n does not reset to zero when chapnum changes. Instead, figures are successively numbered 2.11 followed by 3.12." I'm not sure why you'd think n would have anything to do with <$chapnum>. They don't even share a tab on the numbering properties. However, to solve your problem: Depending on the rest of your autonumbering, you can go back to a variation of the "old-style" autonumbering, placing the Figure titles in the same numbering series as your Chapter Title/Number -- something like this: C:Chapter <$chapnum> < =0> C:Figure <$chapnum>-<n+> That'll do it. If you have lots of subheadings numbering off of Chapter, you'll have to put the Figure titles at the end of the numbering series, with a placeholder for every "column" in your numbering sequence. The problem is easily solved by breaking chapters into files in a book, and designating that paragraph numbering restart in each file. Unfortunately, CiteMaker can only compile cited references from a single file, not a whole book. But that's a different problem. :( Fred -- Fred Ma, fma@doe.carleton.ca Carleton University, Dept. of Electronics 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario Canada, K1S 5B6 ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. ** ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
