Adobe FrameMaker 7.0p578 Update for Windows Released - English, French, and German

Today, Adobe has released an update to FrameMaker 7.0 to resolve a number
of anomalies associated with FrameMaker in the Windows environment and to
make FrameMaker “Acrobat 6-ready” in anticipation of the upcoming release
of Acrobat 6!

This update fixes the TIFF graphics / gray box problems frequently
discussed on these lists.

Further information about this update (including prerequisites - i.e.,
version and previous update requirements), currently only available for
English, French, and German versions of FrameMaker, can be found at
<http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2111>. The updater
may be downloaded from that web page at the Adobe web site.

Important notes in preparation for Acrobat 6, both Standard and Professional
versions:

(1) Without this update, “save as PDF” in FrameMaker 7 will not work if
Acrobat 6 is subsequently installed. Acrobat 6 changes the name of the
PostScript printer driver instance used for PostScript generation for PDF
distillation from “Acrobat Distiller” to “Adobe PDF” and also makes significant
interface changes in use of the system registry and parameterization of the
Distiller. Upon application of this FrameMaker update, your copy of FrameMaker
7 continues to work correctly with Acrobat 5 and if and when you upgrade Acrobat
5.0.5 to Acrobat 6, FrameMaker's “save as PDF” function will automatically
adjust its operation to that upgrade without any further intervention from the
FrameMaker user.

(As previously officially announced, we expect to ship Acrobat 6 in English by
the end of May with other localized versions to follow.)

(2) FrameMaker 7 continues to support placement of PDF versions up to and
including PDF 1.4, i.e. Acrobat 5 compatibility. PDF files created with
Acrobat 6 that are marked as PDF 1.5 (you can choose to distill with PDF 1.2,
PDF 1.3, or PDF 1.4 compatibility) and that actually use PDF 1.5-specific
features such as object stream compression or JPEG 2000 image compression
will not properly import into FrameMaker 7 if at all. For such PDF files,
you will need to save the PDF as EPS from Acrobat 6 and import the resultant
EPS into FrameMaker!

(3) Acrobat 6 is not designed to be concurrently installed with any version
of Acrobat 5 or Acrobat Reader or Adobe Reader of any version. We most strongly
recommend that you use separate computer systems or a dual-boot mechanism on
a single computer to accommodate any need to support multiple Acrobat versions
and/or to do "previewing" of PDF files in a "Reader-only" environment after PDF
production.
