Val, Normally, our advice with Illustrator and FrameMaker would be to save your Illustrator files as EPS files with fonts embedded, language level 3, TIFF preview and to import those EPS files into FrameMaker. The reason for this is that the Illustrator documents might be created on a system with fonts that aren't available on the system on which FrameMaker is running. Unfortunately, Illustrator has a "limitation" in which TrueType fonts are not properly embedded in EPS files. They are embedded as unhinted, Type 1 outlines which could look pretty ragged at combinations of small pointsize, small magnification, and/or low resolution (such as on a screen). I suspect that is what happened with one of the "versions" of Futura that you had. A better workaround that yields really compact EPS files for import into FrameMaker is to save the Illustrator file as PDF with fonts embedded and then, in Acrobat, save the PDF as EPS with fonts embedded, language level 3, opaque preview header, etc. Do NOT select the option to convert TrueType to Type 1 or you will end up with the same problem you originally had. - Dov At 4/13/2003 07:51 AM, Val Swisher wrote: >Hi Dov; > >Thanks for your quick response. > >After much churn on this issue, it apparently had something to do with an Illustrator option that allows the artist to save the file WITH fonts and save the file WITHOUT fonts. We are using FrameMaker 6.0 to develop the documentation and Illustrator (whatever is the latest version - I don't know because I'm not the artist!) to create the illustrations. I believe that Christine is using the standard Acrobat Distiller driver, with standard settings. This is the third revision of the books and we recently switched artists. > >I think that we are all set.
