Fw: == Hmm.. Illustrator or Photoshop against native vector FrameMaker format dilemma... As a sample: One of our small group of four people make about from 400 to 800 pages per week of FrameMaker hardcode technical documentation using only PDF materials as a source. This documentation has a lot of complex flow-diagram-graphs and mixed table+diagrams and even CAD drafts in the source PDF files. Most of these draws are native vector objects with multiply text inlines inside PDF. As that documentation should be used in the L10n industry translating to the different languages other English, the common and very old L10n rule is to have as much as possible text objects from flow-diagram-graph-mixed table+diagrams and CAD drafts in the FrameMaker document as a native text but not as an area of preview text in the imported EPS/PDF/SVG picture. The good solution if you can force to get a simple conversion of AI/Corel/AutoCAD/FH/MicroStation/Visio source draws to the native FrameVector/MIF vector picture in one step. I now only PS2vector and end-of-life Vthought flow perfect package that may help in this way. 'Translation memory' technology (like used STAR-Transit XV, SDLX, TRADOS, DejaVu, TM/2 TM and CAT Tools) prefers to have whole text in access to improve the quality of terminology translation, translation uniformity and decrease the translation time. It saves money for customers. Another well-known problem of L10n/translation service is that the same text in the different languages (after localisation or translation) has different length/volume of string/para; therefore it will break and cross the areas of pictures and picture/graph elements' borders. The time that DTP engineer/operator should spend fixing it MUCH MORE if this text was placed inside EPS/PDF/SVG in AI/Corel/AutoCAD/FH/MicroStation/Visio source comparing to if he/she can do it directly inside Frame document. Wish list: I'm sure that if Illustrator or Photoshop saves the whole text part of its pictures in the XML structure of tagged PSD/PDF/SVG/AI/TIFF (as it should be in future versions of Adobe production), FrameMaker 8 would extract same text and place it on the corresponded positions over the 'imported by reference' picture. Same text would be edit-able, seach-able, index-able, limited format-able and structured. Dov, Lee? And your opinion?
