Well, I cannot say for sure, since I haven't witnessed the
problems myself, but others have reported issues with TIFF
images and grey boxes even after applying the patch. Below is
just a few messages from FrameUsers and Adobe's U2U Forum

A number of us on the list have raised similar issues recently. There
does appear to be a bug in FM 7 when it comes to handling graphics. I
know that Adobe is working on it, because their product development
manager has requested sample files from me.

I have had this problem of the gray boxes in FM7 for several days,
installed the patch and still didn't work, reinstalled FM7 and nothing,
reopening the file didn't work either... 

And finally I GOT IT! Uninstalled Office XP and installed Office 2000,
and it works! Now I can view and edit all these graphics. [...]

I've seen this same thing in my documents. This behavior started only
after the patch was installed. The only images that become gray boxes
for me are 1-bit TIF images, which was one of the areas the patch was to
address. The patch DID clear up the problem of horizontal lines on the TIF
images, but this disappearing image nuisance has replaced that problem.

[...] As in your case, it's a completely random thing. Different graphics
disappear in the same document each time, so I don't think it has anything
to do with the graphic itself other than they are all the tif format.
