RE: Save as PDF file size

Even when ALL options in the Save As PDF > PDF Setup dialog
box are turned off, FrameMaker includes various named
destinations in the PS/PDF: for cross references, markers of
different types (eg index) hypertext markers (eg newlink/gotolink),
for some paragraphs marked as targets for links (whether
correctly or not), for all pages (with the page number) and
special ones for the first and last page.

Each 10 named destinations "weigh" about 1K, and this data
is not compressed in the PDF (regardless of job options).
Depending on the specific content of the book, this extra
size may be meaningless or significant.

Generally speaking, this extra size is not a consideration with
interactive/on-screen PDFs, and unless pressured to produce
the "absolute minimal size", this should not be a consideration
with print-based PDFs either.

Notes:

- Acrobat 5, Tools > PDF Consultant > Optimize Space
can be used to remove the extra destinations -- ONLY if this
is a standalone PDF or a non-interactive PDF.

- I don't recommend using FM7 Save as PDF unless you are
100% sure that the printer drivers being switched from produce
the exact same output (line breaks, missing fonts)
(additional issues mentioned in earlier messages).
