Carol, With modifications appropriate to only Windows 2000 and XP in conjunction with Acrobat 5.0.5 and FrameMaker 7, the instructions appear below. - Dov At 7/31/2002 12:51 PM, Carol Elkins wrote: >Dov, > >I have searched the Framers archives looking for your step-by-step installation procedures and cannot find them. I have a new computer running Win2000. I need to install Frame 7 and Acrobat 5, plus the corresponding Distiller drivers, etc. Could you please point me to the Framers post in which you described the correct procedure. Also, are there any known issues I should be aware of using this configuration with Win2000? > >Thanks for your help, Dov. > >Carol > >****************************************** >Carol J. Elkins A Written Word >Technical writing, indexing, & editing >Phone: 719-948-3773 >mailto:celkins@awrittenword.com >http://www.awrittenword.com >****************************************** STEP ONE: Start with a clean installation of Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional, not an upgrade from Windows'9x or Me. STEP TWO: Install Adobe Type Manager Light 4.1.1 downloadable from: <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=15&platform=Windows> (choose your language) if you need support for Type 1 Multiple Master font instances. (Windows 2000 and XP has the necessary font rasterization built in, except for Type 1 Multiple Master fonts.) ATM Deluxe 4.1 provides the services of ATM Light 4.1.1 PLUS font management services for Type 1, TrueType, and OpenType fonts. Under NO condition should you ever install any version of ATM 4.0 (or earlier) on Windows 2000 or XP, unless you like totally reinstalling Windows! STEP THREE: If you have any PostScript printers, install the PostScript driver via the Adobe Universal PostScript Driver Installer 1.0.6, downloadable from <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=44&platform=Windows>. This will give you an updated PSCRIPT5.DLL driver under Windows 2000 or XP. You will need to run this installer program once for every PostScript printer you have. You should have the correct PPD file for each such printer and have particulars as to how the printer is connected to the system. You may need to "create printer port" for printers connected via TCP/IP. You should also be aware of our other advice to edit the PPD files to delete all font specifications other than "Courier" to avoid other Windows 2000 / XP problems. STEP FOUR: Install Acrobat 5.0.5 from the CD. (For Windows 2000, it is OK to install 5.0 and then update to 5.0.5 with the updater. For Windows XP, that is problematic; directly install 5.0.5.) STEP FIVE: Install FrameMaker 7. Do not do the optional installation of Acrobat Distiller. You already have that installed as part of Acrobat 5.0.5. STEP SIX: When done, pour yourself a stiff drink. ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
