Subject: Speed of Book Creation in FM 7

I want to create a book that contains all the documents for a single contract to generate alphabetical lists of various tags and markers. There are 2070 files in the contract. I currently have 8 separate books, one for each system. The thing is, I think I'd be better off using the system book files I already have and then generating the 8 systems separately in FM 5.5.6 and compiling the generated files later. Trying to create an all inclusive book by using drag-and-drop from a find window has now taken since about 10 this morning and it's still running. Even opening the system books in FM 6 or 7 is horrendous because it takes an eternity for FM to update page counts. ANd I couldn't care less about page counts (and whatever else it is FM has decided to look at in each and every file when a book is opened). What am I missing or is this useless overloading of the network and destruction of productivity something Adobe has made obligatory? This is why in previous discussions about updating FM I've always stated my preference for Adobe to leave weel enough alone. Unless I'm missing a preference setting somewhere, FM has gone from a robust application that ran swiftly with books of any size, to a lumbering slug when dealing with anything but small books.
