Type 1 PS Font issues with Quark 5.0, FM 6.0, and Win XP Pro

When I print certain special characters such as: ' T á © ´ in quark
using a font that was previously installed on my machine... with this
description:

ZurichBT

PostScript Single Master

PostScript Name: ZurichBT

Font Metrics File: ZurichBT.PFM

Font Outline File: ZurichBT.PFB

Copyright 1990-1993 by Bitstream Inc. All RIghts Reserved.

I get either blank spaces or the wrong symbol. Some of these symbols
require typing in the extended ascii code to get the symbol, such as the T
á ©, but I can't get an apostrophe to show up when I print either. This
happens when making a PDF using Distiller, AND when printing to my
PostScript printer.

I went ahead and bought a copy of ZurichBT from Bitstream and this is the
description:

ZurichBT

PostScript Single Master

PostScript Name: ZurichBT-Roman

Font Metrics File: 0718A_.PFM

Font Outline File: 0178A_.PFB

Copyright Bitstream Inc. 1986-1998. All Rights Reserved.

I used the instructions below supplied from Bitstream to remove old versions
and TT versions of my font, and now the font works correctly in Quark, but
it is named differently and now FrameMaker is throwing a fit. I use adobe
type manager

deluxe 4.1 to manage my font sets.

Another quote from the Bitstream guys was this one:

***Windows XP comes with a 'light' version of ATM. We have heard of

conflicts when a deluxe version is installed over the existing

application. We recommend visiting Adobe or Microsoft to insure full

functionality when the application is installed in this manor.***

I've been searching all over the Adobe and MS websites to find references to
this issue, and haven't seen anything at all.

My question is, will I have to buy updates to all the faces of Zurich in
order to use them on both Framemaker and Quark, and if so, will I have to
somehow search and replace all of my Framemaker documents to the new
versions of Zurich fonts so that I won't have 2 copies of each font on my
machines? Has anyone seen this problem at all?

When removing TrueType fronts from WinXP, there are support files that

are 'not' uninstalled. Your system may still be accessing these files.

Our PostScript and TrueType font menu names are identical. In order to

insure this is not causing conflicts, please follow the directions below

to fully remove any remaining TrueType files you may have on your

system.

"How to completely remove TrueType fonts from Windows XP"

instructions:

Close all open applications.

Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.

Double-click the Fonts folder to display its contents.

Choose each Zurich font that has a TT icon, then choose File > Delete.

Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the font. Repeat for each

font.

**********I didn't do this part of the instructions, because it worked
without using this. ********************

ONCE THE TRUETYPE FONTS HAVE BEEN DELETED:

Follow Microsoft's directions to make a backup copy of your Windows

registry

files.

Choose Start > Run. In the Open box, enter regedit, and click OK.

When the Registry Editor opens, open this key:

  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Panose

Look through the list of fonts in the Panose key, and delete all the

Zurich

entries.

Close Regedit.

Open the Windows Explorer Find option.

Choose to find "All files or folders"

For the file name to find, type in this:

adobefnt*.lst

Delete or rename any file beginning with adobefnt and ending in the

extension.lst.
