RE: Can a book contain a nonprinting file (or a note)?

Hi Bart,

Perhaps there are other methods for solving your problem, but yes, it is
possible to include other file types than fm in a book, and I think the only
thing you can do from the book is opening them. Therefore, it should be
possible to include a file called something.txt that would not be affected
when you print the book.

Best regards

Jenny

We're going to use a date variable on the inside front cover of all our dox.
This page is in a pre-TOC front matter file in each book. The challenge I
foresee is remembering to change it, since this file will not typically get
opened when editing the guts of a book.

I had thought to investigate whether I could cause the datestamp variable to
update itself upon opening the Book, not the file. But, this would imply
that every time one opens the book one intends to update rather than peruse,
or do some other business not germane to field service use of the pdf.

Now I wonder is it possible to place a file in the book that _will not
print_! I would name this file something like "Change the datestamp?" to
serve as a reminder right there at the top of the book...
