I've had some interesting experiences with graphic imports also. How about trying this. When you import your graphic, choose the "fit in rectangle" option but write down the physical dimensions that FrameMaker predicts at 150 dpi (assuming that was the resolution when you created the image). Next, right click on the image and set its properties of width and height to match what you wrote down. It works for me.
