Adobe People: I wasted about three hours on Friday trying to produce a fully hyperlinked PDF file from a FrameMaker book, that is, with Generate Acrobat Data turned on in the Print dialogue. The symptoms were that the book printed to PostScript successfully until it encountered a particular page in a particular file. This file could not be printed to PostScript by itself either. I tried all the usual superstitious fixes: saving to MIF then re-opening and saving as FM binary; taking a fresh copy of our master template file, emptying it, copying the entire content of the offending file, pasting into master, saving as MIF, and re-opening. A search of <http://www.adobe.com/> failed to turn up any tech support and bug note documents that had any bearing on the problem. The maddening thing is that this process has worked well in the past with exactly the same master template controlling the design, look and feel of the publication. In the past when we have encountered this problem, the superstitious measures described above solved the problem. For those who care ... *** ENVIRONMENT *** Windows 2000, Pentium III @ 733 MHz, 128 Mb RAM, FrameMaker 6.0p405, FrameScript 1.27C01, Enhance 2.03, Acrobat 4.05.2, AdobePS Universal Installer & Acrobat Distiller PPD, mif2go 31u33, IXgen 5.5.h *** DOCUMENTS *** The only unusual factors different from previous jobs which SUCCESSFULLY generated hyperlinked PDF from the same master template are these: Uses only PostScript fonts Import screen dumps in TIFF by reference HTML Macro markers contain directives to mif2go (no corresponding macros on HTML reference pages; not a problem as FM export to HTML not used; mif2go inserts its own markers Some Hypertext markers contain newlink <targetName> commands with no corresponding openlink <targetName> or gotolink <targetName>, etc. markers Format > Document > Optimize PDF Size executed from book *** SETUP PHASE *** PDF Setup dialogue: BOOKMARKS tab Generate PDF Bookmarks -- Yes Include Paragraph Tags ... -- No Articles -- Thread by column STRUCTURE tab Generate Logical PDF Structure -- No // What the hell is this anyway?
