LAST day for free fonts is THURSDAY, not Friday

Thanks very much to Thomas Michanek for the alerts on the expiration of
Adobe's support for TOC free fonts.

One very important correction, though. "Discontinue ... as of September
1, 2000" means that THURSDAY, not Friday, is the last day. This was
confirmed to me by a helpful support technician at Adobe this afternoon
when I got my unlocking keys for the free fonts. Another way it might
have been worded is that "support will be discontinued after August 31,
2000" or, in other words, "customers have until August 31, 2000, because
as of September 1, 2000 support will be discontinued."

I got out my Type On Call package that came with FM 5.5, put in the CD
and followed the directions on installing. The only hitch was when I
wanted to change the designated directories that TOC would use --- for
some reason the install program couldn't make the new directories and
disappeared from the screen after I had created the necessary
directories with the Windows NT Explorer file manager. I tried to start
the TOC install again and it said it couldn't open a second installer,
though strangely the first was nowhere to be found, not an icon on the
desktop, not on the task bar. However, a quick reboot and everything
went flawlessly into the newly created directories.

Next I called the 800 number which was displayed on screen at the end of
the install process, and, after waiting a short while on hold for next
Adobe technician to be available, I gave him my installation number (a
number generated by the program, not the install CD key on the CD
cover), and I got my numeric keys for unlocking the fonts without any
hassels (I just answered a few questions: my name, etc.for the
registration).

The technician that took care of me was very helpful, gave me everything
over the phone and was patient while I repeated back the numbers to
verify that I had them correctly recorded. (I put them into a text file
which I saved and printed, just in case I need them in order to
reinstall if something goes wrong with the installation or I replace the
hard drive later.)

So let there be no mistaking it, if you are a North American Frame user
who recieved the TOC CD with your FM software, you qualify for the TOC
free font offer and have only until the end of Thursday to get your free
fonts. It only takes a few minutes for the whole process. (If Adobe
does extend their offer through Friday, it will be contrary to what I
was told, so I wouldn't risk it --- and I'd assume you should call
within regular business hours, just to be safe.)
