Peter Lucas says, >I'm using FM 5.5.6 on the PC. ... I'm trying to import an .eps >graphic created in Adobe Illustrator 8.0, but when I do, I only see a >grey box and no image. Elizabeth James replies, "You have to include a "header". Strictly speaking the header is prepended to a native Illustrator 8 file to form an Illustrator 8 EPS file. If you Save As in Illustrator format, you get no header, but in that case Frame will interpret the file as a text file - Frame won't recognize the file as EPS. If you Save As EPS, then you get the header, and Frame interprets the file as a PostScript graphic. Although an EPS file necessarily includes graphic elements, it doesn't necessarily include a preview image. On Mac and Windows Frame, it is the preview image that displays onscreen. You need to choose in the Save As dialog box whether you want a preview, and if you do, its format. A Mac will display only a Mac preview - if you save with no preview, or a PC preview, you get a gray box onscreen (though the PostScript is there, and will print properly to a PostScript printer). A PC will display only a PC preview - if you save with no preview, or a Mac preview, you get a gray box onscreen (though the PostScript is there, and will print properly to a PostScript printer). If you really REALLY want a preview that displays on both platforms, read up on "EPSI", but that discussion is for another time. Mark Barrett writes, "Save it as a version 7 Illustrator EPS, and Frame will show the preview." That's true provided you save with a Mac preview; but the technique applies to all versions of Illustrator, not just Illustrator 7.
