CHRONOLOGY 1. Ordered and paid for an upgrade to Acrobat 4.0 via phone in late October or early November. Gave the order-taker my 3.0 registration number, and she verified that I was entitled to the 4.0 upgrade. I was told that Adobe's records would be updated to show that I now had upgraded to version 4.0. 2. Received the product in mid-November. Mailed in the registration card that came in the box. 3. Learned on the list in November that Acrobat 4.0 was bug-ridden, thus I did not install it. 4. Learned on the list in November, in a post from Adobe that registered owners of 4.0 would receive a free upgrade to 4.05. The post stated that existing license holders could expect to receive 4.05 in December. 5. Called Adobe in late December or early January, gave them my Acrobat registration number, told them I had received my Acrobat 4.0 upgrade, had sent in my registration card, and was now requesting that they send me the free bug release (4.05). I was told that if I had not received the 4.05 CD by the end of January to call back and check. 6. When 4.05 had not been received by the end of January, I called back on January 31 to inquire when I could expect it. The order-taker informed me that their records did not show that I had upgraded to 4.0, and did not show that I had requested 4.05. When I offerred proof that I had, she updated the Adobe records, and stated that 4.05 would be sent within a month. 7. On 6 March (today), the 4.05 CD still had not been received. Called Adobe again. I was told I could expect delivery in 4 TO 6 WEEKS! When I asked for some sort of written confirmation (e.g., fax, email, or snailmail) the order-taker stated that written confirmations were not authorized. Forget about Adobe Magazine's omission of anything about FrameMaker. Forget about the fact that Adobe doesn't promote FrameMaker at trade shows or in-store displays. Acrobat is one of their premier products, yet they produce a bug-ridden major release and then can't get the bug release out to registered owners in less than 4-1/2 months? I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Adobe's wheels are coming off. ==================== | Nullius in Verba | ==================== Dan Emory, Dan Emory & Associates FrameMaker/FrameMaker+SGML Document Design & Database Publishing Voice/Fax: 949-722-8971 E-Mail: danemory@primenet.com 10044 Adams Ave. #208, Huntington Beach, CA 92646 ---Subscribe to the "Free Framers" list by sending a message to majordomo@omsys.com with "subscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. ** To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@omsys.com ** ** with "unsubscribe framers" (no quotes) in the body. **
