RE: forcing line breaks in a paragraph format

Elizabeth,

Unfortunately - NO. The autonumber format can not contain a forced line
break or normal return character. This is an issue that pops up
periodically and has been requested as an enhancement to the numbering
capabilities, but as of now it is not permitted.

However, if you are able to use a second format, you could create a
"Table Number" and "Table Title" paragraph tags, where the table number
format is automatically followed by the table title when your hit the
enter key. You would define the tables to automatically use the "Table
Number" format for their title, so that they are properly identified
when a new table is inserted, and then it is just a matter of hitting
the return key to get the "Table Title" format, which will still be
inside the table's title block

I realize this is still a manual solution, and has an impact on the
table of contents, list of tables and the like. However, by not having
the line break or return in the title itself, you don't have to worry
about deleting the unwanted break from those generated lists either.
And you can define the "Table NumberTOC" (or ...LOT) not to display the
page number, and set it as run-in head so that the appearance remains
the same as using a single Table Title format does.
