Solution to various TOC issues

Listees,

Thank you all for you input. All my problems appear to be solved by using
the following routine. I don't know why they occurred in the first place,
but the crux of the solution appears to be in fresh TOC generation as
opposed to REgenerating:

1. obtain the name the book intends to use for a new TOC file by selecting
Add>Table of Contents... (in my experience, for some reason, this will be
some truncated, half-generic name ending in 1TOC.fm)
2. copy that name and delete the proposed file from the book
3. dupe your TOC template into the project folder (with the other chapter
files) and rename it by pasting in the name obtained from step 1
4. generate the TOC
5. using the book, rename the generated TOC file to your liking

Doing this, in my testing, ensures that
- the leader tabs between each TOC entry and page # appear (as formatted via
the paragraph designer
- "leading" content, e.g., info appearing within the TOC-holding frame (with
a tag name that does _not_ include TOC) is not deleted or overwritten when
updating
- roman page numbering is not converted to Arabic when updating

...all of which I believe I should not have experienced given correct
formatting at the outset, yet continued to experience in whole or part if I
did not provide that renamed TOC template prior to generating (otherwise,
the TOC always took on the formatting of the first file in the book--a
cover--and presented one or more of the troubles cited throughout these
threads).

For anyone using this information, this all is under Frame 6 and Mac OS9.1.
