Re: Gee, ain't dem RTF/*.doc files BIG! [I'M IMPRESSED!!]

Framesters:

The story so far ...
I was trying to convert a 190 pp User's Guide from FrameMaker to Word.
After grinding away for about half an hour on one 42-page chapter,
FrameMaker's inbuilt RTF converter informed me that it had encountered a
problem and crashed. It left behind a 19 000 Mb RTF file that Word could
not open.

Then a bunch of fanatics burst into the virtual premises and threatened me
with hair loss unless I tried mif2go. Well, this product is just
fantastic.

I fed it the book file and it churned through 190 pp and 166 screen dumps
in **15** minutes (count 'em) and produced perfectly useable Word files
complete with graphics. Many of these graphics consisted of TIFF screen
dumps imported by reference but with callouts and other bits and pieces
created with FM's drawing tools. These composite graphics came across
perfectly as merged bitmaps of some kind, even though the User Manual said
that mif2go did not handle TIFF. All styles were preserved and numbered
paras came through with numbers intact. And it also preserved my hair.

Unfortunately, our chapter title pages are fancy layouts consisting of
multiple text frames in various orientations and positions; these did NOT
translate, but neither did I expect them to. A very impressive tool that
is going to get more usage here.

[Windows 2000, FrameMaker 5.5.6p145, FrameScript 1.27C01, Enhance 2.02,
Acrobat 4.05.2, mif2go 31r25, IXgen 5.5.h]

Regards,
Hedley
