Updating Acrobat (was: Acrobat 4.0)

-------------------snip
You should always uninstall older versions before installing newer
versions of Acrobat. The only exception is that once you have 4.05a
installed, you then apply the "4.05 Update 1" (from Adobe web site)
to the installed copy of 4.05a!

Dov:

Now that's right neighbourly of you...I wondered why I usually had to make
3 installs of Acrobat 4.05a before Windows Registry would play ball. Not
to mention file associations and the like :-(

So, I looked at the readme & other documentation that comes with Acrobat
4.05a. Very carefully. And this is what I found...

The installer 'notices' a previous version (3.xx or 4.x) and tells me,
before I install '4.05', that if I subsequently want to un-install 3.x or
4.0 I'll have to then re-install '4.05'. Why would I want to do that?

The 'Installer' scenario...

Have:    Acrobat 3.xx or 4.0
Install: Acrobat 4.05a
Remove: Acrobat 3.xx or 4.0 (in a fit if pique, perchance?)
Install: Acrobat 4.05a

====

But now you're giving us the *real* story...the one Adobe have *never*
mentioned in all the time I've upgraded from 2.01 --> 3.0 --> 3.01 --> 3.02
--> 4.0 --> 4.05a (--> 4.05b).

The 'Dov' scenario...

Have:    Acrobat 3.xx or 4.0
Remove: Acrobat 3.xx or 4.0 (the only way to go!)
Install: Acrobat 4.05a

So, now I'll know how to do it right. A sincere thank you, Dov. :-)
