FM to PDF Parameters on UNIX

I have been reading the documentation that came with FM 5.5.6 on Solaris
to see if I can determine how to set up the environment so that using
the Save As PDF command from FM runs Distiller with settings tailored to
our own special needs. So far, though, I'm still uncertain how to
proceed to set this up.

Does anyone have any experience doing this that they can share?

If this won't work using Save As PDF, can one set up the environment to
have Distiller run with our tailored parameter settings using the Print
dialog and selecting PDF file as the destination?

Worst case and I have to save as PostScript, then run the distill
command manually, how do I set things up so I don't have to use the
command line options (or create a shell script wrapper that specifies
the command line options) when I run the distill command?
